Protected areas and Natura 2000 network: Protected areas identified for natural, landscape and cultural characteristics defined by specific legislative acts. The data contain national, regional and other protected areas forming part of the Regional Ecological Network, established by specific legislative act. The individual protected areas are classified according to the types provided for in Title II, Chapter I, of Regional Law No 19 of 29 June 2009 as amended. Consolidated text on the protection of natural areas and biodiversity provides, in relation to the different characteristics and uses, for the identification of natural parks, natural reserves, special reserves, contiguous areas and natural safeguard areas. For regional parks, the entities responsible for managing them (Management Authority, Province, etc.) are also indicated. The objective of protecting these sites is the conservation of nature. Sites are designated according to IUCN regulations.
