Region of Tuscany — Libraries

In Tuscany there are about 1,100 libraries (1.048 are registered in the Information System), of which 340 are public by local authority (municipal, provincial). Since 2000 many resources have been invested to qualify the public library of local authority as a “square of knowledge”, as a place of encounter and access to culture and information for all citizens. In Tuscany, there are also some of the most important specialised libraries belonging to large cultural institutions, which often also preserve the papers of great protagonists of national culture (such as the Accademia della Crusca, the Vieusseux Cabinet, the Georgofili Academy etc.), as well as important state, university, ecclesiastical and private libraries.
