Region of Tuscany — PIT Topographical map

As part of the revision of the landscape framework of the Tuscany Region’s Territorial Address Plan (PIT), an updated topographical map was produced, at a scale of 1:50,000 and extended to the entire regional territory able to contextualise the thematic elaboration of the PIT. The purpose of the map is to account for the morphology and characteristics of land cover, the articulation and hierarchy of transport infrastructures, the weaving of settlements, and has been obtained by means of prompt methods of generalising the numerous detailed geographical databases available in the Regional Territorial and Environmental Information System.The data processing took place in the Quantum Gis environment. The QGIS project, fuelled by the series of topographic and thematic layers prepared through the selection and generalisation of the available databases, is designed for a regional continuum and has been aimed at the creation of raster cartography of elements corresponding to the cut of the Italian Charter of Italy 1:50000 IGM.
