SAC — Special Conservation Areas — Natura 2000 Network

The sites belonging to the Directive **Habitat 92/43/EEC** were initially identified as SCIs (Sites of Community Interest proposed) by the Regions delegated pursuant to Presidential Decree No 357/99. Subsequently, they were evaluated and included in the list of SCIs (Sites of Community Interest) by the European Commission through publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. Only after the approval of Protection and Conservation Measures (M.T.C.) or Management Plans (P.D.G) by the Regions have the SCIs been designated by Ministerial Decree as Special Conservation Areas (SACs).
