Dataset description

The combined (or total) susceptibility analysis was produced in order to highlight critical areas for the sum of the two factors, coastal erosion and marine flooding. The elaboration of SI_tot derives from the arithmetic sum of the classes of the two indicators related to the phenomena of erosion and marine flooding. The resulting values are normalised in 5 total classes. It is therefore a relative classification that must not be compared with the two previous maps, except to understand which of the two phenomena most affects the risk appetite of an area. For the reading of this map it must be borne in mind, in fact, that there are stretches of the coast that, due to morphological conditions, very low altitudes and absence of bumps, present a high criticality to the phenomenon of marine flooding, on the contrary they could present a wide beach and an evolutionary dynamic that is not critical and, for this reason, appear to have a low susceptibility to erosion. Detailed descriptions of the analysis procedure and assessments made can be found in the work: ‘Coastal disusceptibility indicators to erosion and flooding’ marine available online at https://ambiente.regione.emilia-romagna.it/it/geologia/notizie/notizie-2019/rapporto-supporto-mitigazione-rischi-costieri
