TRIX Trophic Index for Coastal Marine Waters (1997-2021)

<span style=\"color: RGB(34, 34, 34); font-family: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana, Lucida, sans-serif; font-size: 12.672px;\">The index considers the main components of marine ecosystems that characterise primary production: nutrients and phytoplanctonic biomass. It summarises in a numerical value a combination of some variables (dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll “a”, total phosphorus and dissolved inorganic nitrogen) that define, in a scale of values from 1 to 10, the conditions of trophy and the level of productivity of the coastal areas.&nbsp;With the issue of Ministerial Decree 260/2010, this index is identified as an element of physico-chemical quality in support of the Biological Quality Elements (EQB), therefore contributes to the classification of the ecological status of marine-coastal waters and is assessed on the basis of whether or not certain threshold values are exceeded.
