The Nitrates Directive 676/91/EC is the European Union document regulating excess nitrates in surface water and groundwater due to agricultural activity. This instrument imposes precise constraints on the storage and distribution of livestock waste on farms and establishes the periods during which manure or slurry may not be distributed. For example, in seasons such as winter, where cultures are not actively growing and rains could more easily transport nitrates from the ground to watercourses and surface groundwater. The main contents of the Directive are:- the identification of Vulnerable Zones from Nitrates of Agricultural Origin (ZVN), in which the ban on spreading waste from farms is introduced above an annual maximum limit of 170 kg nitrogen per hectare;- the regulation of the agronomic use of livestock waste, with the definition of the so-called Action Programmes: documents setting out how the spreading of waste can be carried out.Legenda columns dbfIstat common: ISTAT code identifying the municipalitySection: census SectionFoglio: map sheet numberAnnex: identification of the portion of the map sheet on which the Development Annex was created: identification of the portion of map sheet on which the Area_ha development was made: map sheet areaDesignation_ZVN: Yes/NOYYear: year of entry into force of the regulation with which the ZVN was designated the sheetRegulation: Regulation No 12/R/2007 is amended by Regulation No 12/R/2007 to designate new nitrate vulnerable zones of agricultural origin with reference to groundwater.
