Dataset description

Time periods: 31.03.2000, 1.3.2011, 1.1.2016, 1.1.2017, 1.1.2018, 1.1.2019, 1.1.2020, 1.1.2021 and 1.1.2022.Excludes migration from hierarchically lower-level areas to higher ones with the same lower-level area (densely populated areas to those parts of higher-level areas overlapping with densely populated areas) as well as migration to/from unknown areas. Neighbourhood and densely populated areas with 10 or less permanent residents are excluded. The Classification of Administrative Territories, Territorial Units and Statistical Regions is published at https://data.gov.lv/dati/dataset/atvk. Generalised boundaries of territorial units are published at https://data.gov.lv/dati/dataset/robezas. The neighborhoods are published at https://data.gov.lv/dati/dataset/apkaimes. Densely populated areas are published at https://data.gov.lv/dati/dataset/bat. The calculation of experimental statistics shall be based on new data sources and methods, seeking to widen the range or level of detail of statistics according to user needs. It should be noted that experimental statistical methods are not constant, approbated and internationally agreed and may be changed to improve data quality. The CSB publishes experimental statistics in order to receive user feedback, evaluate the analytical potential of the data, relevance to reality and user needs. The CSB considers that time series of experimental data can also be useful for users and the opinion of the users of the statistics is the basis for deciding on the inclusion of these statistics in the Official Statistics Programme. When publishing experimental statistics, the CSB provides data users with new sources of information for decision making. The calculation of the population in all specified periods has been carried out using geospatial data — the coordinates of the address points and the boundaries of administrative territories according to the data of the State Land Service at the specified time. The fluctuations in the population of the relevant territorial unit or administrative territory as a result of changes in the boundaries of the territorial units have thus been reduced. Residents whose last reason for updating the information of the place of residence is the cancellation of the registration of a place of residence shall be included in the number of inhabitants of the administrative territory in which the place of residence of such person was previously declared or registered. The place of residence of these persons is indicated by territorial units and neighbourhoods as unknown.
