Coastal and transitional water bodies

The transitional water body has been determined in accordance with Cabinet Regulation No 858 of 19 October 2004 on the characterisation, classification, quality criteria and procedures for determining anthropogenic loads of surface water bodies in the south of the Gulf of Riga, near the mouths of Daugava, Lielupe and Gauja. The outer limit of the transitional water body is defined as 4.7 promyl isohalin. Coastal water bodies have been determined in accordance with Cabinet Regulation No 858 of 19 October 2004 on the characterisation, classification, quality criteria and procedures for determining anthropogenic loads of surface water bodies. According to the Water Management Law, coastal waters are surface waters on the shore side of a line connecting all points situated within a nautical mile to the sea side of the baseline or extending to the outer boundary of the transitional waters. Coastal water body A — the rocky shore of the south-eastern Baltic Sea; B — the open sanding coast of the south-east of the Baltic Sea; CDE — the western coast of the Gulf of Riga; F — the sandy coast of the Gulf of Riga moderately open.
