The soils of agricultural land in Latvia have been mapped between 1960 and 1991 in several layers, using different soil classifications on a scale of 1:10 000 at different times, resulting in differences between districts.
As a result of the European Economic Area project “Development of the National System for Greenhouse Gas Inventory and Reporting on Policies, Measures and Forecasts” (No 4.3-233/EEZ/INP-002), the project “Sustainable promotion of land resource management through the creation of a digital soil database” resulted in a scanning of 3730 soil maps in the Central Archives of the State Land Service between September 2014 and March 2016. The ‘Soil areas’ layer includes information on the year of mapping, the group of granulometric composition of the soil, the subtype of soil.
