The LVĢMC performs meteorological observations in 33 observation stations (~1 station per 1 500 km²), which are stationary throughout the territory of Latvia. The location of the stations is optimal to describe the weather and climate of Latvia in sufficient detail. Location density is regulated by international norms. Automatic equipment and appropriate software for processing and transferring measurements and observations to the database are installed in 23 observation stations. In these observation stations, the observation programme is developed according to the tasks and technical capabilities of the observation station: 7 stations operate in continuous operation mode with manual observations, 3 stations — 2 in operation mode with manual observations and 13 stations in continuous operation mode with automatic observations only. In 10 observation stations, only observations of the most variable meteorological elements in the room are performed — atmospheric precipitation, snow cover, individual atmospheric phenomena.
