Atmospheric air quality stations are a point shp file that summarises all national atmospheric air quality stations, where actual observations of air and rainfall quality of the atmosphere from Latvia and cross-border received by Latvia take place. The point location of the stations shall correspond to the location of each station. The file is maintained in accordance with the Environmental Monitoring Programme for 2015-2020, based on the Environmental Policy Guidelines 2014-2020, approved by Cabinet Order No 130 of 26 March 2014 on Environmental Policy Guidelines 2014-2020.
The data set also contains information on the division of Latvia into zones and agglomerations, because taking into account the area of zones and agglomerations as well as the population, the number of monitoring stations is determined in accordance with the legislation. Atmospheric air quality zones and agglomerations are a field-shaped shp file that indicates contaminated zone areas.
In order to assess the level of pollutants in cities where data from air quality monitoring stations are not available, modelling of pollutants at agglomeration level is carried out.
