The requirements of species protection are defined by Species and Habitat Protection Law of March 16, 2000, which is based on Directive 92/43/EEC on protection of natural habitats and wildlife, and on Directive 2009/147/EC on protection of wild birds. According to the law, lists of specially protected species are made, summarising endangered, vulnerable and rare species that inhabit specific habitats (http://likumi.lv/doc.php?id=12821). The list includes both traditionally protected species in Latvia and those protected by the EU Bird or Habitat Directive. In total, 723 plant and animal species are included in the list, that is approved

In case of major update that would not be compatible with previous version of API, we keep for 30 days both versions so you will have enough time to transfer to new version. We will inform you about the changes in advance by e-mail.
