Dataset description

In bore-free zones, clay layers that protect the underlying groundwater should not be pierced. This is laid down in the Provincial Environmental Regulation Gelderland (PMG). It is also prohibited to use the soil as an energy source (e.g. for the storage of cold or hot water). The Provincial Executive may grant an exemption. The exemption requirements state that the clay layer must not be damaged and that the use of substances must not pollute groundwater. In water and groundwater protection areas, the use of soil as an energy source is also prohibited. This cannot be waived. The province and its partners aim to protect groundwater as a source of drinking water supply. The update plan was adopted by Provincial States on 15 December 2021, the date of entry into force is 1 February 2022.
