The Amsterdam City Archives created this file to make clear where and when bombs fell on Amsterdam in the period 1940-1945. On the map are not only bombs thrown off by airplanes, but also crashed aircraft, crashed anti-aircraft grenades, dropped empty petrol tanks etc.The information at the strikes comes from the reports of the air protection service, the daily reports of the police and fire brigade archives. The list certainly does not pretend to be complete. Of the thousands of bombs that have fallen on and around Amsterdam, it is not always possible to find where exactly they ended up. Because of the concise reporting, it is often impossible to trace how many bombs have occurred in a particular incident. The police day reports do offer the public a nice source to continue investigating what took place in their neighbourhood during the period of World War II.
