Dataset description

The table provides insight into the number of benefits under the General Survivors Act (Anw), which was provided at the end of the reporting period. De Anw is a national insurance against the financial consequences of death and has benefits for survivors, semi-provided (until September 2013) and orphans. As of 1 July 2013, the right to a half-sector benefit has ceased as a result of a legislative amendment. From 1 July 2013, a surviving parent with a child under the age of 18 will receive a higher survivor’s benefit. For those who already had a half-service benefit, the change will take effect as of 1 October 2013. One can only qualify for a benefit if the deceased was insured on the date of death. In principle, everyone who lives in the Netherlands is insured for the Anw. Those who do not live in the Netherlands, but who work in the Netherlands and pay payroll tax, are also insured. A benefit can be transferred abroad within the framework of the Restriction Export Distributions Act (BEU Act). For a small part of the Anw benefits, the origin group of the recipient cannot be determined. These are people who live abroad and are not included in the municipal population registers. The Anw entered into force on 1 July 1996 and replaces the General Widow and Being Act (AWW) in force until that date. The basic data of the Anw come from the Social Insurance Bank (SVB). The number of benefits is broken down by a number of characteristics of the benefit recipient: — gender; — age; — country of residence; — origin grouping. Data available from: January 2008. Status of the figures: The figures in this table are final. Changes as of 24 February 2015: None, this table has been discontinued. When are new figures coming? No longer applicable, as this statistic was discontinued on 1 January 2014.
