Figures on the use of biological control methods in agricultural and horticultural crops. Since 1992, CBS has been researching the use of biological control methods in some of the most important arable and horticultural crops. CBS wants to meet a proven need. This need consists, among other things, of other government institutions and engineering firms.
The table contains figures on the area on which annual use of biological control methods is made. The number of biological fighters is also given per application. This also includes the number of companies with use. Since organic control methods are mainly used in crops grown under glass, data are focused on this.
The study also collected data on chemical and non-chemical (e.g. physical control) methods of control. These figures can be found in other tables (see links to relevant tables and articles).
Data available from: 1995
Status of the figures: final
Changes as of 11 April 2011:
A number of data have been adapted for the sector totals of vegetables under glass and flowers under glass. For the years 1995, 1998, 2000 and 2004, figures have been removed for the number of fighters deployed per company and the dosage of used fighters per company. For 2004, figures have been removed from the number of holdings with application and the percentage of holdings subject to organic control. These deletions have been made because these data by double counting (a company may have several crops) are not reliable.
In addition, for the years 1995 and 2004, the figures for the underlying crops have been adjusted for the number of organic fighters deployed per farm and the dosage of used fighters per farm.
When are new figures coming?
This table is no longer supplemented by new figures. Figures from 2008 onwards are published in the table “Application of biological control in greenhouse horticulture” (see for link section 3. Links to relevant tables and articles).
