In DTB, churches, cities and villages kept records of births, baptisms, marriages and deaths. Pastors and priests had to deal with all categories. The government recorded marriage announcements and burials, and from 1695 also a tax (impost) on marriage and buried. The oldest Westfriese DTB dates back to the 1570s, the youngest from the nineteenth century.
