This table contains key figures on fertility, live and stillborn children and multiple births by gender. It concerns the births of the inhabitants of the Netherlands.
In this table, the data can be divided into the following characteristics:
— Live-born children by gender;
— Live-born children by mother’s age (on 31 December) in age groups;
— Born alive by order of birth from the mother;
— Live born children according to the marital status of the mother;
— Live-born children according to the mother’s migration background;
— Stillborn children according to gestational age;
— Births: singles and multiples;
— Average number of children per woman;
— Average number of children per man;
— Average age of the mother by order of birth from the mother;
— Average age of the father by order of birth from the mother.
Data available from:
Most of the data is available from 1950.
Exceptions to this are live-born children according to mother’s migration background (from 1996), stillborn children with a gestational duration of 24 weeks or more (from 1991), the average number of children per man (from 1996) and the average age of the father (from 1996 onwards).
Status of the figures:
All figures shown in the table are final figures.
Amendment as of 8 September 2021:
The figures for 2020 have been added.
When are new figures coming?
In the third quarter of 2022, the final figures for 2021 will be included in this publication.
