Bottlenecks of the otters during the migration between fragmented nature reserves. A map that distinguishes the potential habitats and migration routes and a map with all the bottlenecks, categorised on the basis of priority. A traffic bottleneck occurs when there is a reasonable chance of traffic casualties at a location within or between current habitats (Kuiters & Lammertsma, 2014). When assessing the urgency of a traffic bottleneck, there is the following:
1. The suitability of the watercourse and bank zone as a migration route for the otter.
2. The type of road (municipal, provincial or national road).
3. The maximum speed on the road in question (from 60 km/h fatal).
4. The presence of an underpass and its size and type.
5. The presence of obstacles in the underpass.
6.The presence of accompanying grids along the road.
The map of the Nature Network Netherlands (NNN) examined to what extent the potential habitats and migration routes correspond to the ecological connection that has been/are realised.
