This table provides data on the number of establishments by size class based on the number of persons employed and by legal form. The establishments are also classified by economic activity, based on the 2008 Standard Business Classification (SBI 2008) and by various regional divisions (including COROP areas, provinces and parts of the country) based on the municipal classification as of 1 January of the reporting year.
Data available from: 2010.
Status of the figures:
The figures until 2020 are final. The figures for the last two years are provisional.
Changes as of 11 May 2022:
The data for 1 January 2022 have been added. Completed information for the period 2020 and 2021 has been processed.
The data for the period 2014-2019 have been corrected in terms of classification by location size. On the basis of an erroneous external administrative source, the company size of companies with the legal form ‘Company under Firms’ has been incorrectly determined and therefore also the size of the company’s establishment, mainly involving a shift from the group ‘1 person employed’ to the group ‘2-10 persons employed’. The effect of erroneous source increased every year in the period 2014-2019. The correction concerns an increase of 27 thousand establishments with 2-10 persons employed in 2014 to an increase of 54 thousand in 2019.
From 2015 onwards, data on the following sectors have been added to the table:
O Public administration and public services
P Education
Q Health and welfare care
T Households
A-U All economic activities
In addition, the following classifications have been added at national level:
Netherlands, Abroad, Unclassifiable
Foreign countries
The Netherlands; not to be classified
The underlying encodings of the classification SBI (2008) used in this table have been adjusted.
These are now in line with the standard coding established by CBS.
The structure and data of the table have not been modified.
When are new figures coming?
The new figures are usually available 4 months after the end of the reporting year.
