This table provides an international comparison of the functioning of the government based on various aspects. In essence, the functioning of the government involves two roles, namely:
(1) The government is the corrector of markets that do not work properly. This is reflected in the extent to which the government has an influence on economic flows (e.g. through state control, ad hoc and sectoral state aid and rules for starting up an enterprise);
(2) the government as a market participant, for example as a supplier of digital public services.
Please note: In order to make an international comparison possible, the figures presented here use internationally comparable definitions, which sometimes differ from the definitions normally used by CBS. As a result, differences can occur between these figures and national figures published elsewhere on the CBS website.
