Carbon sequestration in the soil during green fertilisation

What do you see? This map shows the potential carbon sequestration in the soil for the measure applying a catch crop and green manure. This measure sown after the main crop an additional crop that can absorb nutrients and prevent leaching. This crop is then ploughed back in the spring and thus provides extra supply of organic matter. The map shows that the potential of this measure compared to other measures is limited, with the highest potential in the Veenkolonien. What’s the value? This card, together with the maps for the other measures, provides insight into where a certain measure would be effective in the Netherlands for carbon sequestration in agricultural soils.
