The continuous NAP -20 meter depth line is a simplification of the physical NAP -20 meter depth line. The physical or actual NAP -20 meters depth line is very whimsical and can change under the influence of sand transport by currents and waves. Therefore, the continuous NAP -20 meter depth line has been chosen. It is recorded in coordinates and does not change. The continuous NAP -20 metre line was already implemented for Zeeland in 1993 in the ‘Policy plan Voordelta’, which was also signed by LNV, and for the rest of the coast in the ‘Regional Deforestation Plan North Sea’ in 2004 and in the ‘Nota Ruimte’ in 2005/6. In the Note Space, the term “seaward boundary coastal foundation” is adhered to. The location of the continuous NAP -20 meter depth line was established in consultation between V & W, LNV and VROM and recorded in coordinates in the ‘opakhouse’ at RWS North Sea. The NAP -20 meters is not chosen arbitrarily. In the Delta area and in the Wadden area, the submarine coastal slope passes into the flatter seabed at that depth. Locally, this is a bit complicated by ebdeltas and sandbanks, but it is a good choice as a border to the coastal system. In addition, on the basis of the continuous NAP -20 meters depth line at 2 km seaward, a line was defined to limit the large-scale sand extraction.
