Dataset description

This file contains the old cores of South Holland. The current city and village centres are often of medieval origin (1500 to 500 years ago). Settlements of several centuries lie here on each other. The soil archive in these cores thus contains very important information about their origins. The map shows the size of cities and villages around 1850. After that, there was a period of large-scale changes in the industrial era.
