This map shows the current status of air quality in the Netherlands. This information is refreshed every hour. The air quality index is the result of a calculation method. This index consists of a weighting of three substances (all three calculated and calibrated measurements). The fabrics are: particulate matter (PM10), ozone (O3) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). The information on this is bundled and thus comes to one number, between 1 (low air pollution) and 11 (a lot of air pollution). To present it more clearly, color codes have also been added (blue, yellow, orange and red). These classifications are based on knowledge about the health effects of these substances.
The index was developed by RIVM. From the GGDs came the request to provide clear air quality information. In addition, there was a need for comprehensible legal advice if air quality was lacking.
