Wood production is an important function of forests, and the product is used for multiple purposes. This map shows the current wood production in forest areas, modelled on soil properties and forest type. Based on knowledge about the growth rates of different forest types on different soils (Vandekerkhove et al. 2014, Moonen et al. 2011, De Vos 2000, Jansen et al. 1996), the spatial distribution of current wood production has been determined. The map shows for each cell the actual volumes of increased wood, expressed in m³ of spindlewood per hectare per year. This map does not show in which areas wood has been harvested. The map was produced for the Atlas Natural Capital by knowledge institutes RIVM and VITO (Belgium).
