Detainees on 30 September; residence permit, duration of sentence, personal characteristics

This table contains data on all persons in detention on 30 September of a reporting year. These are both detainees who are in pre-trial detention and have not yet been convicted at first instance and detainees who have been convicted. Only criminal detainees are included in this table; persons who are in custody of foreigners have not been taken into account. The detainees are distinguished by gender, age, migration background, residence permit and length of sentence, per reporting year. These are detainees within the prison system. The figures refer to adults and minors aged 16 or 17 who are enrolled under adult criminal law. Minors who have been tried on the basis of juvenile criminal law reside in Judicial Youth Institutions. These persons are not included in this table. The table shows the number of prisoners per population in absolute figures. Persons who do not appear in the Basic Persons Registration (BRP) sometimes lack personal data. These people are included in the figures. Data is available from: 2005. Status of the figures: The figures in this table are final. Changes as of August 2021: Figures for the year 2020 have been added. When new figures become available: The figures for 2021 will be available in the third quarter of 2022.
