This table shows the results of the wastewater discharge study. This concerns the destination of the discharged oxygen binding substances in waste water by households and businesses and the taxation of surface water. When discharged, a distinction is made between discharges to sewage, whether or not connected to a sewage treatment plant, and discharges to surface water (direct discharges). This is also called the gross discharge: it is the discharges as originally released at the source, regardless of whether there is any further purification. With the help of information on the residual discharge of sewage treatment plants, the load on the surface water can then be calculated. This is also known as the total net discharge. The data of the discharges by households and companies are based on the attacks imposed by the water quality managers for the pollution charge under the Surface Waters Pollution Act (Wvo). All discharges are expressed in population equivalents.
