This table provides information on completed divorce proceedings before the Dutch courts. This includes information on the nature of the request, the persons concerned (partners and minor children) the duration of the marriage up to the time of the decision and the duration of the divorce proceedings. In addition, there is information on decisions in ancillary services (e.g. possible maintenance for the partner and/or child(ren), allocation of the former jointly used home, allocation of parental authority and the established access arrangements).
The decrease in the number of divorce proceedings since 2001 was largely caused by the increase in the number of so-called ‘flash separations’. In the event of a flash divorce, the marriage was first converted into a
registered partnership. Subsequently, this registered partnership was dissolved without the intervention of the court. Since flash separations were not pronounced by the judge, flash separations are not included in this table. The flash separation was abolished as of 1 March 2009.
