This table contains figures on the energy consumption of companies by economic activity, based on the 2008 Standard Business Classification (SBI 2008). Energy consumption can be calculated in two ways. The first is from the consumption side. Consumption is the sum of final energy consumption, non-energy use and the balance of energy use and production. The latter is the loss of energy during conversion. The second way to calculate energy consumption is from the supply side. The total energy consumption is equal to the extraction of energy plus the supply minus the delivery plus the change in stock.
These two calculations give the same end result. In addition to the balance, the table also shows the underlying figures on the use of energy carriers for conversion (the amount of energy used to make other energy carriers) and about the production of energy from conversion (the amount of energy produced from other energy carriers).
