The thermal energy from surface water from watercourses and puddles (EOW) can be used in combination with Heat and Cold Storage Systems (WKO) for the sustainable heating of buildings. For this purpose, a pump installation with a heat exchanger will be placed in the vicinity of the customer to extract heat from the water with a small temperature difference (-3 °C) in the summer. This heat (15-25 °C) is stored in the groundwater of the WKO with which it becomes available in winter and can be used for heating using a heat pump. By cleverly integrating this pump system into the existing water system, benefits can be achieved in water quality (washing and cooling) and fresh water supply.
The dataset describes the economically recoverable potential of thermal energy from surface water compared to the current heat demand corrected for the soil storage capacity for WKO expressed in suitability classes (moderately suitable, suitable, very suitable, excellently suitable) of a location within a radius of 100 meters of watercourses and urination.
