It concerns monitoring data. In the period 2008-2013, the Port of Rotterdam Authority created the first phase of Maasvlakte 2. The new port covers about 2.5 % of the total Voordelta, a Natura2000 site. According to the Environmental Impact Report (EIA), both the construction and the presence of the port has effects on existing animal and plant species. The effects of the construction and presence of Maasvlakte 2 on nature and living environment have been compensated and mitigated by various measures. For example, a soil protection area of 25.000 ha has been set up in the Voordelta (10x the size of the surface of the new port) with indoor resting areas for birds. In addition, a new dune area was realised at 's Gravezande (Spanjaardsduin) in 2009 to compensate for the nitrogen deposition that increases after commissioning the Second Maasvlakte. Various measures have also been taken to offset and mitigate the effects of the construction. To monitor the effectiveness of these measures, three Monitoring and Evaluation Plans (MEP) have been drawn up and implemented.
