This table presents economic data for the environmental sector. The volume of labour, production and added value of the environmental sector are discussed in this table.
Production and value added are measured in basic prices and labour volume is measured in working years (active persons).
The environmental sector consists of the group of companies and bodies carrying out activities related to measuring, preventing, limiting, minimising or correcting environmental damage to water, air and soil, and problems related to waste, noise and ecosystems (OECD, 1999; Eurostat 2009).
This definition also includes “cleaner technologies” and “cleaner products and services” that reduce environmental risk and minimise the consumption of natural resources and pollution. The definition of the environmental sector has been adopted at European level and is applied as such by EU countries.
