This table provides data on the number of employees of the municipal and regional fire brigades on 1 January of the said year. In addition, the operational staff is broken down by professional and voluntary staff. From 2005 onwards, the other employees of the fire brigade are also listed. A distinction is also made between the grade level of the operational staff and the level of training of the other staff. The figures are available for the Netherlands in total and per security region.
Due to a new ranking and by adjusting the questionnaire, figures may deviate from previous years from 1 January 2011. From that period onwards, the questionnaire can be completed according to the new ranking as set out in the Decree on Personnel Security Regions (see Official Gazette 2010, No 253). In the translation from position to grade and the translation from old to new grade, the Guide to Conversion Ranges of the Dutch Association for Fire Protection and Disaster Control (NVBR) was used. As of 2012, the Higher and Secondary grades have been merged into one category of Higher and Medium grade levels. This has been decided because a sufficiently reliable breakdown cannot be made at regional level. In addition, as of 1 January 2011, in consultation with the NVBR and Vakvereniging firefighters, the definitions of the professional, voluntary and other personnel have been adapted.
The safety regions Limburg North and Brabant-Zuidoost could not make their data available for 2019 before the closing date of the survey. It has been agreed with them that the declaration for 2018 will also apply for 2019.
The safety regions Kennemerland and Haaglanden have indicated that they have done a higher quality task in 2019. It has been agreed with them that the declaration for 2019 will also apply retroactively for 2018.
