The map shows the average added value per hectare of agricultural roughage production (grassland, but also cut maize, fodder beet, lucerne, etc.) calculated over the period 2011-2014. This four-year period has been chosen to do justice to crop rotation cycles: after all, other crops can be grown on the same land each year (except for permanent grassland). The data are partly derived from the Basic Percelerated Records (which shows where which crop is grown) and partly from the CBS agricultural census, as processed by the LEI (in which the average production value of each crop is calculated). To this so-called standard revenue, the average earning capacity per sector is then applied as an estimate of value added. The ecosystem service should be seen as the added value of products produced by the land — not as the total value of production.
