In October 2014 the research programme FRESHEM Zeeland (FREsh Salt groundwater distribution by Helicopter ElectroMagnetic survey in the Province of Zeeland) was launched on behalf of the Province of Zeeland, Rijkswaterstaat, Het Rijkswater (Deltafonds), Evides, Scheldestroom water board, ZLTO, the Flemish-Dutch Scheldt Commission and the Zeeland municipalities. The implementing knowledge parties Deltares, TNO and the German Bundesanstalt für Geowissenschaften und Rohstoffe (BGR) contribute to the research aspect of the programme and the scientific products. The goal of FRESHEM Zeeland is to develop an approach for producing a three-dimensional chloride distribution of groundwater in the Province of Zeeland using electromagnetic helicopter measurements (HEM). This approach makes use of already available information on the geology and knowledge of the groundwater system.
The result consists of 3 parts:
1. 3D result. The three-dimensional distribution of the chloride concentration of groundwater with a horizontal resolution of 50*50 m² and a vertical resolution of 0.5 m.
2. 2D result. For each flight line a profile of the chloride concentration with a horizontal resolution of (approximately) 4 meters.
3. Border plane maps. For limits 150, 300, 1000, 1500, 3000 and 10 000 mg Cl/l, the depth of the interface is determined in relation to NAP and ground level.
