Government; expenditure by functions 1995-2012

This table provides data on expenditure by policy area of the general government sector. For the classification of policy areas, the Classification of the Functions of Government (COFOG 99) is used. This classification is also used in the National Accounts. The other terms used are also in line with the National Accounts. The National Accounts are based on the international definitions of the European System of Accounts (ESA 1995). To increase the accessibility of the table, in some cases common definitions of income and expenditure categories are used instead of the terms from the National Accounts. The relevant National Accounts term is then mentioned in the notes. The data presented corresponds to the publications on the National Accounts. Data available from 1995 to 2012. Status of the figures: The figures in this table have been definitive since 1995. The two most recent years still have a (further) provisional character.
