Healthcare expenditures comparable internationally; providers and financing

This table shows the expenditure on health care used by residents of the Netherlands in one year. Healthcare is defined according to the international definition of the System of Health Accounts. The figures are comparable internationally with Eurostat, OECD and WHO publications. All healthcare activities count, regardless of whether they take place inside or outside the healthcare sector. The figures are derived from the Care Accounts, which includes more activities, such as youth care, welfare work, social services and childcare. The health accounts also include exports (expenditure for and by non-residents) included in the table as foreign financing. The table also shows how from the total figure on health expenditure according to the Healthcare Accounts to the international total figure: Total health expenditure according to the Health Care Accounts —/- export —/- expenditure on welfare, childcare for residents —/- expenditure on health-related products such as household care within the care of the elderly, for residents = Total expenditure on health care (total current expenditure on health) Data available from: 1998 Status of the figures: The figures for 2021 are provisional; the figures for 2019 and 2020 are further provisional; the other figures are final. Changes as of 7 July 2022: The figures for 2021 have been added, the figures for 2018-2020 have been adjusted. When are new figures coming? Updated figures for 2019-2021 and preliminary figures for 2022 will be published in the second quarter of 2023.
