Dataset description

This table shows the amounts of household waste collected per municipality. The amount of household waste per inhabitant can vary greatly per municipality. There are several reasons for this. For example, in a municipality with a lot of high-rise buildings, less GFT waste and coarse garden waste will be released because there are fewer gardens. In municipalities with a diftar system, where households have to pay more if they deliver more waste, less waste per inhabitant is often released. Tourist municipalities often collect more waste. The latter is mainly visible on the Wadden Islands where a relatively large amount of waste per inhabitant is released. The data relate to those quantities as they have been collected. More and more municipalities are separating their mixed (gross) residual waste, releasing recyclable raw materials. The only quantity that does not relate to collected waste is the final waste processed. For a definition of final waste, see: definitions and explanations of symbols. Data available from: 2001 Status of the figures: The figures for 2018, 2019 and 2020 are further provisional; all other figures are final. Amendments as of 17 December 2021: Final figures 2017 and new further preliminary figures for 2018, 2019 and 2020 have been added. A new line has been added to the table: end-processed waste. The underlying coding of the classification (waste type) used in this table has been adjusted. These are now in line with the standard coding established by CBS. When are new figures coming? Preliminary figures for 2021 will be published in September 2022.
