Persons living in the Netherlands in a private or institutional household by place in the household, gender, age and region on 1 January.
The following breakdowns are possible:
— Persons in all households by gender, age and region;
— Persons in private households by place in the household, gender, age and region;
— Persons in institutional households by gender, age and region.
The regions listed in the table are territories, provinces, COROP areas and municipalities.
The regional totals presented concern aggregations of municipalities. In case of border changes that cross different regional borders, the division of the municipalities is grouped according to the most recent situation.
For example: for the municipality of Vianen, which has moved from the province of Zuid-Holland to the province of Utrecht on 1 January 2002, it is grouped in the table in the province of Utrecht.
The regional figures on the institutional population show sometimes difficult to explain fluctuations from year to year. The methodology used is based on the characterisation of address housing based on secondary sources. Not in all cases the typing is perfect. This may be because an address has changed, e.g. from healthcare institution to housing of (former) asylum seekers, without CBS having taken note of this. In other situations, an address may not stay above the thresholds applied one year and the other in terms of the number of institutional residents that apply to the definition of institutional addresses. Indirectly, such fluctuations also affect the number of single-person households.
