This table provides information on the expenditure and financing of
research and development (R & D) in the Netherlands. When performing R & D
three sectors are identified: companies, Public
research institutes and universities. This table provides figures on the
income obtained from contract research from the so-called third flow of money
at universities. For the sake of completeness, the income was also obtained with
other activities from the third flow of money. The third
money flow involves financing from the private sector or from the
(semi-)government, but for specified assignments. The latter in
in contrast to the general government contribution to the activities of
universities (first funding stream) and funding from general
resources through intermediary organisations such as the Dutch organisation
for Scientific Research (second flow of money).
