The province strives for a coherent approach to nature, landscape and water that enhances the quality of the environment and recreational opportunities and thus better absorbs the effects of climate change on nature and the water system. To promote the robustness of the system, areas have been incorporated as a connection between the Nature Network Brabant and the rural area — the green blue mantle. The values in the green-blue mantle are often linked to the soil-water system (such as the presence of torches, stream valleys), to landscape features (such as woodwalls and hedges), or to the occurrence of special plants and animals. The green-blue coat focuses not only on protecting these values but also on their development.
The province strives for a coherent approach to nature, landscape and water that enhances the quality of the environment and recreational opportunities and thus better absorbs the effects of climate change on nature and the water system. In order to promote the robustness of the system, areas have been included as a connection between the Nature Network Brabant and the Rural Area; the Green Blue Coat.
The scope of the Green Blue Coat lies in areas with important secondary functions for nature and water. The areas contribute to the protection of the values that lie in large parts of the Brabant Nature Network, including the ecological connecting zones and the waters with a function for water nature or v weaving. This includes the buffering of environmental and climate influences in these areas. The scope of the Green Blue mantle also has distinctive significance for biodiversity, water system restoration and landscape. Also green areas in and near the urban environment are sometimes included within this stock. If the area of operation is over Urban Area, important green-blue values are present or it is important to strengthen environmental quality that extensive urbanisation takes place with a balanced green-red ratio.
Within Green Blue Coat, the policy is aimed at the preservation and especially the development of a climate-resistant and resilient water system and the development of green blue values, nature and landscape. For nature, this mainly means strengthening the habitats for plant and animal species and promoting biodiversity outside the NNB. For the water, the main focus is on quantitative and qualitative restoration of torment currents, such as the ‘pointing phenomenon’ (the pushing up of groundwater) on the Peelrandruptcy in East Brabant, in the stream valleys and on the transitions from sand/peat to clay in the ‘Seam of Brabant’.
