Ecological connection zones are areas or structures that should allow connection, migration and exchange of species between natural areas. They are often elongated wet and/or dry landscape elements along dikes, watercourses, roads, rail and waterways. Search areas for ecological connection zones are included in the Interim Environment Regulation. The Nature Network-Brabant-evz file indicates indicatively the route that should follow the connection between nature reserve and therefore has the nature of a search area. The designation of the evz itself takes place by the municipality in a zoning plan.
Until the evz is realised, a strip (buffer) must be included in the zoning plan in accordance with the Interim Environment Regulation with rules to prevent the realisation of an evz being made more difficult. After realisation and the inclusion of an appropriate nature destination in the zoning plan, the landscape elements that make up the evz in accordance with the nature destination will be included in the Nature Network Brabant. When a certain route is fully completed, the indicative strip of Nature Network Brabant-ecological connection zone will lapse.
