The provincial policy on regional flooding is aimed at ensuring protection against flooding and clarifying risks. In the Interim Environment Regulation, province-covered areas with standards for flooding are included. This is the highest possible chance of flooding from surface waters. This is linked to rules with an effort obligation for the Water Board to meet those standards. This will implement the policy in the Regional Water and Soil Programme (RWP). The areas are regularly updated, including following adaptation of other layers in the regulation such as Urban Area or Nature Network Brabant. The other land use then leads to a different standard.
Since 2009, the water boards periodically test their water system (1x per 6 years) whether it meets the standards for flooding. The result of these reviews and related reports leads to an understanding of areas where standard applies or does not apply.
