A gauge tube is a tube with one perforated part, which is placed in the bottom to determine the elevation of the groundwater (both of the phreatic plane and of deeper elevations), or for monitoring the quality and quantity of groundwater. The perforated part is also called the filter part and is usually 1 to 2 meters long. Depending on the purpose of the study, the filter is placed under the groundwater level or cutting relative to the groundwater level. With a cutting filter, a floating layer with oil components can be detected. A gauge tube can be made of PVC, HDPE, among others. Origin definition: Wikipedia
