Dairy farmers in the Netherlands supply approximately 96 % of the milk to dairy plants. The remaining 4 % keep them for their own use (for the rearing of young cattle and for the own production of dairy products).
This table provides information on the supply of milk by Dutch dairy farmers to Dutch dairies and the preparation of a number of dairy products by these dairies. The table shows monthly and annual figures. The quantities and levels of protein and fat are known of the milk imported. Dairy products are butter, factory cheese, milk powder, condensed milk and whey powder.
CBS does not collect the data itself but takes over from the monthly statistics of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). Not all Dutch dairy factories are involved in this month’s statistics. However, the coverage is very high: about 97-98 % of the milk supplied comes to the participating holdings. In order to compensate for the absence of the unobserved holdings, the monthly quantities were landed
milk increased by a few percent. This is not necessary for dairy products; the production by the unobserved dairy plants is very small.
In addition to the monthly statistics, RVO also carries out an annual statistics in which all dairy factories are involved. When the annual figures of RVO become available, CBS shall adjust the provisional monthly figures to final figures, in such a way that the sum of the monthly figures is equal to the annual figure. However, this adjustment is, as a rule, very small.
Data available from: January 1995.
