Dataset description

This table contains trend estimates on the relocation behaviour of the Dutch population in private households, i.e. excluding residents of institutions, establishments and homes. The travel behaviour is expressed in the average number of journeys per person per day and the average distance per trip. These are only trips on Dutch territory excluding those of frequent occupational movements and holiday relocations. The travel behaviour in journeys, and the average distance per journey, is broken down by travel motive, mode of transport, gender and age class. Of the values (trend estimates) margins are available in the form of the lower and upper limits of the 95 % confidence interval. Over the years, the research design of the successive mobility studies has undergone various changes. With time series modeling, these have been corrected as best as possible. As a result, the figures of the resulting trend series based on rite information have been made comparable on a continuous basis over the years. The figures are calculated using data from four consecutive studies: the Research Relocation Behavior (OVG)- for the trend series has been used in the years 1999 to 2003; the Mobility Research Netherlands (MON); used years 004 to 2009, the Research Relocations in the Netherlands (OViN); used years 2010 to 2017 and the new mobility research Onderweg in the Netherlands (ODiN) that started in 2018 and that is still ongoing. From the ODiN, the years 2018 to 2020 have been added to the trend series. In a few years’ time, the trend series will be recalculated and expanded with trend estimates based on ODiN. Data available for the period 1999 to 2020. Status of the figures: The figures in this table are provisional. Amendment as of 18 November 2021: All figures in this table have been re-estimated after it has been extended to include figures from the years 2018 to 2020 When are new figures coming? The trend series is supplemented and recalculated once every 1 to 2 years.
