This table contains data on the number of active vehicles with a Dutch moped registration according to the position on 1 January from 2019. The data is based on information from the Basic Vehicle Registration (BRV) or better known as the RDW vehicle registration register. Registration for these vehicles has been mandatory since 1 September 2005. Of all Dutch moped vehicles, the technical data of the vehicle and the personal data of the owner/holder are registered. With the help of this registration, counts were made of chalked Dutch vehicles with a moped registration on 1 January, which were allowed to participate in public traffic during the previous year. These counts are divided by characteristics of the vehicle (type and year of construction) and by characteristics of the owner (age and province).
Vehicles which have not been insured throughout the previous year and are therefore not allowed to drive are excluded. Vehicles that are in the stock on 1 January are also excluded.
The number of speed pedelecs on 1 January 2022 is 2.2 percent of the total number of vehicles with a moped license plate. About three-fifths of speed pedelecs are included in the mopeds and two fifths in the mopeds.
