Dataset description

This table provides information on the marketing in the Netherlands of motor fuels for transport and other customers. Part of the sales is intended for consumption in the Netherlands and for international road traffic. This is called final consumption. The other part is intended for international maritime and air transport. This post has traditionally been called bunkers. The table contains figures for all types of transport. Agricultural machinery and mobile equipment are not covered by transport. Figures for the relevant motor fuels are given per transport category. Pure biofuels for road transport are not included in this table. Blended biofuels are included in the marketing of engine petrol and automotive diesel. Biofuels are products derived from agricultural crops. The marketing of motor fuels is expressed in energy (petajoule) and physical units (million kg or million kWh). For road traffic, sales are also published in volume (million litres). Data (in petajoules) are also included for total transport, total shipping, total aviation and total rail traffic. This is not possible for physical units because different units (e.g. kg and kWh) are not added. Since 2013, low excise duty red diesel has not been sold anymore. Customers of this red diesel, such as construction and agriculture, have since been obliged to refuel the high excise diesel that is also consumed by road transport. Until August 2016, a model-based estimate of the share of road transport in the use of diesel was made monthly. This model-based estimate is no longer considered justified for determining monthly figures. The distinction in diesel consumption between road transport and other customers in the monthly tables has thus been eliminated. On an annual basis, the distinction in diesel consumption between road transport and other customers is published in the table: “Energy balance; supply, conversion and consumption”. Data available from: 1946 Status of the figures The figures in this table are final until 2018 and further provisionally from January 2019. As this table has been discontinued, the data will no longer be definitive. Amendment as of 30 July 2021 None, this table has been discontinued. When are new figures coming? No longer applicable. This table is followed by the table ‘People raw materials and petroleum products balance; supply and consumption’. See paragraph 3.
